Arriving by car

(NB Further significant revisions expected prior to the 2024 Show date)

Page last updated – 15 November 2023

Our show is easy to get to by road with York (the City) and the Racecourse fully signed with both permanent and temporary event show signing. However we strongly recommend that all attendees follow the temporary event signing to the venue. These signed routes may not be the shortest but they will help you avoid congestion in York City Centre.

SAT NAV – the venue’s address is York Racecourse, Racecourse Road, YORK YO23 1EX. However, if using the post code please check your Sat Nav is locating Racecourse Rd as other parts of the Racecourse use the same postcode. All routes to the Racecourse within the City environs are signed.

Parking – due to rebuilding work at the Racecourse having potentially commenced by Easter 2024 the location of alternative car parking is Work in Progress. Further updates to follow.

Disabled parking – should be available close to the main entrance to the Show. Please follow directions from the stewards on the day. Disabled parking slot availability is subject to demand on the day. The location for the disabled parking slots is also subject to potential relocation for the 2024 event.

The struck through sections below are currently withdrawn pending a page update nearer the show date when the situation regarding the building works is known.

Parking (Section updated 15 November 2023)

Note in some years the location differs on Saturday due to a car boot sale

Public parking varies according to the day you travel, what time you get to the site and if you have a Blue Badge.

Saturday –

Early arrivals – Saturday morning. Please watch out for runners and/or related traffic issues – there is a Park Run on the Knavesmire at 9am. Their website for details is = https://www.parkrun.org.uk/york/

Main parking on Saturday

This will be on the Knavesmire grassed area due to the regular car boot sale. Estimate 10-15 mins walk. There is on street parking at the Knavesmire end of Racecourse Rd but very limited; however, what there is will likely be taken by layout crew and stewards etc  arriving early for the obvious reasons.

Blue badge parking

In past years further up Racecourse Rd is organised/monitored by the Racecourse staff.

Car boot show – Based on the dates used for previous years a clash is not currently anticipated for 2024 due to Easter Saturday being earlier than their first Saturday in April start date. The car boot show details are at – https://www.yorkcarboot.com/

Sunday  & Monday –

As Saturday for the on street parking location and Blue Badge parking. The public parking for the show will be closer as without the clashing car boot sale the Racecourse’s coach park will be used. The coach park is accessed from Racecourse Rd and is past the Show entrance. It will be supervised by Racecourse staff 9am to 2pm. Estimate 10 mins walk.

External website information regarding York Show parking.

Please note some links to parking options from other websites, including at least one from a leading hobby site, are known to be incorrect as they ignore the temporary arrangements opened for Racecourse event parking.

A Residents Only on street parking scheme covers parts of the South Bank residential area of York, however, you should not need to consider or use on street parking. Parking for over 800 cars is available free of charge.

Our old driving notes page – this is still available here; however neither it, nor the old links to external sites that it contains, have been checked or updated since this page’s creation. (Updated 21 March 2023)
