By Car (summary) – more details on our Arriving by car page
Our show is easy to get to by road with York (the City) and the Racecourse fully signed with both permanent and temporary event show signing. However we strongly recommend that all attendees follow the temporary event signing to the venue. These signed routes may not be the shortest but they will help you avoid congestion in York City Centre
Walking distance to/from the car parking – If you have limited mobility, but are not a blue badge holder, you may prefer to attend on Sunday or Monday when the walk to the venue from the car park will be shorter.
SAT NAV settings
Saturday – As in previous years due to the clashing car boot sale’s use of the coach parking area the Saturday parking will be on the Knavesmire. Ignore the postcode below and set satnavs to the junction of Knavesmire Rd & Knavesmire Ave. The gate onto the Knavesmire is immediately opposite the end of Knavesmire Ave. It turns the T junction into a cross-roads.
Sunday & Monday – the venue and car park’s address is York Racecourse, Racecourse Road, YORK YO23 1EX. However, if using the post code please check your Sat Nav is locating Racecourse Rd as other parts of the Racecourse use the same postcode. Parking will be in the coach park area beyond the end of Racecourse Rd.
Disabled parking – will continue to be marked close to the main entrance to the Show. Please follow directions from any stewards on the day. Disabled parking slot availability is subject to demand
On street parking exists in the South Bank residential area of York, much of it now Residents Only; however, you should not need to use it. Parking for over 800 cars is available free of charge.
Rail Travel to York
York is a major rail centre served by mainline, cross-country and local services. The regular changes of franchisees, and associated pages within their websites, has rendered maintenance of the former level of detailed information impossible to keep current. However, this is no longer necessary as you are reading this page on-line therefore you have internet access to all the current rail travel timetable, ticket booking and other services. If arriving by train also see our Arriving by train or bus page.
For Network Rail Engineering works there are links on their website. We hope these will help:-
Status & Disruptions (Their live feed) Planned engineering works are listed about half way down. The page has other menu options too.
Trainline – the Trainline information and ticketing site
Railsmartr – alternative to the Trainline for ticket purchase.
Local bus services to the Show and Racecourse area
Service bus links passing close to the Racecourse are extremely limited although others with a fairly substantial walk from their nearest stop do exist.
2025 information: this will be updated for the 2026 show when we receive the information. A Racecourse link bus to/from York railway station (Service 197) from stand RJ will be running over the weekend. Please note this service is run by a local operator (York Pullman) as a commercial operation in support of events at the Racecourse – it is not a YMRS provided service. A key point to note is that as it is an “extra” the bus company have advised that age passes for free travel are invalid. Fares can be paid by cash or card.
More detail regarding the link bus’s fares and times plus the limited local bus service options is on our Arriving by rail or bus page. (Section revised/updated for 2025 on 31 March 2025)
Airports
Leeds/Bradford and Manchester International airports are within fifty and ninety minutes respectively. International travellers should note that there is a rail link to York from Manchester Airport.
